“The signal from the fast radio burst exposed the nature of the magnetic field around the galaxy and the structure of the halo gas. The study proves a new and transformative technique for exploring the nature of galaxy halos,” said J. UCSC Newscenter — Fourteen UC Santa Cruz graduate students have received scholarships worth a total of $158,000 from the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation for the 2019-20 academic year. Since 1976, the ARCS Foundation’s Northern California Chapter has given more than $2 million in scholarships to UC Santa Cruz students.
