Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion

JEDI Committee Mission Statement

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC Santa Cruz recognizes that there are many additional barriers for success unjustly placed upon minoritized members of our community. The Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) committee aims to support these members by fostering a departmental culture of access and representation. The JEDI committee, composed of students, staff and faculty, will work with the Chemistry and Biochemistry community to 1) organize seminars, workshops, and activities to equip our community with strategies for achieving equitable learning and research outcomes, 2) employ equitable hiring practices to achieve parity, and 3) partner with other UCSC departments, offices, and clubs focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion to provide a network of resources to help undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty succeed and thrive at UCSC and in the field of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The JEDI committee will elicit dialog from and involvement of the entire community and provide safe and transparent mechanisms for discussing and meeting our goals of inclusion, equity, and social justice. The JEDI committee welcomes dialogue. Please feel free to contact the JEDI Chair, Professor Ted Holman, about issues that you wish to be addressed.
